At least seven people were killed when a tourist vehicle en route to Fairy Meadows plunged into the Tattu Nala ravine in Gilgit-Baltistan's Chilas city, according to police and rescue officials on Monday.
Details of the Accident
The tourist jeep, carrying visitors to the popular destination of Fairy Meadows, met with a serious accident on the Tattu Raikot Road in Diamer district on Monday afternoon. The vehicle reportedly plunged into a deep ravine and was swept away by the Tattu stream. Initial reports indicate that the accident occurred at around 3:00 pm.
The vehicle, bearing registration number GLT-1335, was carrying tourists along with the driver when it fell into the gorge. All occupants, including the driver, were reported missing until the time of filing this report.
Victims and Rescue Efforts
The driver was identified as Ziaullah, a resident of Darel, District Diamer. Police said that two tourists belonged to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and four were from Punjab. The tourists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were identified by police as Ali and Sajjad.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and launched a search and rescue operation to locate the missing persons. Authorities said rescue efforts were continuing, and further details would be shared as the operation progresses.
According to a spokesperson for Gilgit-Baltistan Police, all available resources have been mobilised to assist in the rescue operation.
