The Punjab government has reinforced a smart lockdown across the province starting Tuesday, June 2, 2026, as part of its austerity and energy conservation measures. This move ends the temporary relaxation granted to traders for Eidul Azha.
Details of the Smart Lockdown
According to official sources, the relaxation for markets, restaurants, and other businesses was effective until Monday, June 1. From Tuesday, commercial activities must adhere to the prescribed schedule. Markets are required to close by 8 PM, while restaurants, wedding halls, and food outlets can operate until 10 PM. Authorities have been directed to ensure strict compliance.
Exemptions and Enforcement
Certain sectors are exempt from these restrictions, including gyms, indoor sports facilities, the IT industry, and call centers. Officials emphasize that this policy is part of a broader strategy to promote efficient energy consumption and reduce electricity wastage. Enforcement agencies have been instructed to monitor compliance and take action against violations.
The provincial administration also plans to bring private generators and large solar systems under the tax net to further support energy conservation efforts.
