According to Beijing-based Xinhua News, Xi, who is the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, stated: 'Resolving the Taiwan question and realizing China's complete reunification is a historic mission and an unshakable commitment for the Communist Party of China.' He vowed to take resolute actions to fight secessionists seeking Taiwan independence, oppose external interference, and advance national reunification.
Context of China-Taiwan Relations
China considers Taiwan its breakaway province, while Taipei insists on its independence. Xi's remarks come amid heightened tensions over the status of Taiwan, which Beijing views as a core national interest. The Chinese leader also stressed the importance of promoting long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao as essential for realizing national rejuvenation.
Call for Safeguarding Sovereignty and Party Leadership
Xi called for efforts to resolutely safeguard China's sovereignty, security, and development interests. He stressed the need to uphold absolute party leadership over the people's armed forces, ensuring that the military remains loyal to the CPC and capable of defending national interests.
