PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday declared that Pakistan would not compromise on the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that the country is prepared to defend its water rights if necessary. Speaking at the main oath-taking ceremony in Gilgit, he accused India of attempting to use the treaty as a political weapon and asserted that Pakistan would firmly protect its interests.
Tribute to Gilgit-Baltistan and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto
Bilawal paid tribute to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, describing them as patriotic Pakistanis and praising their sacrifices in securing freedom from Dogra rule. He also remembered former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for his contributions to the region.
Pledge for Youth and National Unity
Bilawal pledged to create better opportunities for the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan, saying addressing the region's challenges would remain a priority for the PPP. Commenting on national politics, he said his party was willing to work with all political forces in the national interest. He thanked Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistan Muslim League (N) for accepting the public mandate in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Allegations Against India
Referring to recent tensions with India, Bilawal claimed Pakistan's armed forces had inflicted a humiliating defeat on India. He also accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of pursuing conspiracies against Pakistan and attempting to facilitate infiltration through Afghanistan. These allegations have not been independently verified.
