Saudi Arabia took part in the recently concluded UN Counter-Terrorism Week, held in New York. The Kingdom was represented by a delegation from the Presidency of State Security, led by Gen. Abdulhamid Al-Badr, with the involvement of the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia to the UN.
Global Terrorist Threat Ecosystem Discussed
During the event, Al-Badr addressed the global terrorist threat ecosystem, outlining Saudi Arabia's vision and efforts to combat terrorism. He stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation, sharing information and expertise, and building capacity to support international peace and security.
Side Event on Countering Terrorist Financing
Al-Badr also participated in a side event organized by Saudi Arabia in partnership with several countries and international organizations. The focus was on countering terrorist financing in low-capacity and fragile environments. Discussions centered on strengthening capacity-building efforts, enhancing operational cooperation, and ensuring the balanced implementation of relevant international standards to cut off sources of terrorist financing.
Meetings with Senior UN Officials
On the sidelines of the event, Al-Badr held meetings with senior UN officials, including Alexandre Zouev, acting under-secretary-general for counter-terrorism, and Natalia Gherman, executive director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate. These meetings aimed to bolster collaboration and align efforts in global counter-terrorism initiatives.
