Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Emphasizes Dialogue with Iran and EU for Regional Stability
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a significant diplomatic outreach on Thursday, highlighted the critical role of sustained dialogue and diplomatic engagement in fostering peace, security, and development across the region. This emphasis came during a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, where both leaders exchanged views on the evolving regional situation.
Strengthening Pakistan-Iran Ties Through High-Level Consultations
Reflecting the deep-rooted and fraternal bonds between Pakistan and Iran, which are anchored in shared history, culture, and faith, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular high-level engagements. They agreed to utilize bilateral institutional mechanisms to enhance cooperation across all areas of mutual interest, thereby solidifying the strategic partnership between the neighboring nations.
Pakistan's Commitment to EU Trade Enhancement Under GSP Plus
In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with European Union Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis in Islamabad, where he reiterated Pakistan's dedication to working closely with the EU on initiatives aimed at boosting mutually beneficial trade. The Prime Minister specifically underscored the pivotal role of the GSP Plus scheme in expanding trade relations between Pakistan and the European Union.
He expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the 7th round of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue, held in Brussels in November last year, which was led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. This dialogue has set a positive trajectory for future collaborations.
EU Ambassador's Assurance and Upcoming Business Forum
Ambassador Karoblis conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception in Pakistan and assured continued efforts to strengthen Pakistan-EU relations across various domains. He also extended good wishes from the EU leadership to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Ambassador highlighted the EU's ongoing commitment to engage closely with Pakistan on trade enhancement, not only through the GSP Plus framework but also via upcoming initiatives such as the first-ever EU-Pakistan Business Forum, scheduled for April this year. This forum is expected to further catalyze economic cooperation and investment opportunities between the two sides.
These diplomatic engagements underscore Pakistan's proactive approach in leveraging international partnerships to address regional challenges and promote economic growth, aligning with broader foreign policy objectives.
