In a significant development aimed at bolstering bilateral security ties, Pakistan and the United States have reached a mutual understanding to increase cooperation in police training and among law enforcement agencies. This agreement was finalized during a high-level meeting held in Islamabad on Saturday, bringing together Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and US Chargé d’Affaires in Pakistan Natalie Baker.
Joint Operations Against Fraudulent Networks
The discussions centered on conducting joint operations against fake and fraudulent visa networks, which will be executed under comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Both parties emphasized the need for a coordinated approach to dismantle these illicit networks that exploit individuals seeking to migrate.
Focus on Illegal Immigration Prevention
During the meeting, detailed talks were held on preventing illegal immigration and enhancing the effectiveness of the pre-immigration clearance system. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi underscored the government's zero-tolerance policy against the agent mafia, stating that US cooperation in this regard would be highly welcomed. He personally affirmed his oversight of actions targeting fake visa networks, highlighting the government's commitment to addressing this critical issue.
Technological Advancements and Crackdowns
Naqvi further elaborated on the measures taken to secure passports, noting that they have been made foolproof through the integration of modern technology. He emphasized that illegal immigration poses a serious challenge, and a full-scale crackdown is currently underway against those attempting to enter the United States illegally. The Interior Minister revealed that due to these effective government initiatives, illegal immigration has seen a notable decline of 47 percent.
No Leniency for Document Fraud
In a firm stance, Naqvi declared that individuals involved in fake documentation networks deserve no leniency, reinforcing the government's resolve to eradicate such criminal activities. This approach aligns with broader efforts to maintain national security and uphold the integrity of immigration processes.
US Commitment to Strengthening Ties
On her part, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker reiterated the United States' special importance attached to its relations with Pakistan. She emphasized that the priorities of both nations are aligned, and enhanced mutual cooperation will further strengthen bilateral ties. Baker expressed optimism about the collaborative efforts in law enforcement and police training, viewing them as pivotal steps toward fostering a more secure and cooperative partnership.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss broader Pak-US relations and explore avenues for enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing common security challenges.
