Pakistan Passes Historic 27th Constitutional Amendment with 234 Votes
27th Constitutional Amendment Passed: Shehbaz Hails Achievement

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment as a monumental achievement for Pakistan's national unity and democratic advancement during Wednesday's National Assembly session. The landmark bill received overwhelming support with 234 votes in favor against only 4 opposing votes.

A Historic Democratic Milestone

Addressing the parliament, the Prime Minister emphasized that the establishment of constitutional courts, a key component of the Charter of Democracy, had finally been realized after years of anticipation. The constitutional amendment represents one of the most significant democratic reforms in recent history, fulfilling long-standing commitments to strengthen Pakistan's judicial framework.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound gratitude to all lawmakers who supported the legislation, describing the development as a "landmark reform" that would significantly enhance the country's democratic infrastructure. The Prime Minister's emotional address highlighted the collective effort behind this constitutional achievement.

Honoring National Heroes and Protecting Unity

In his speech, the Prime Minister addressed the constitutional recognition of Field Marshal title for Army Chief General Asim Munir. "After the Marka-e-Haq, when we honoured General Asim Munir as Field Marshal, the entire nation welcomed it", Shehbaz stated, adding that formalizing this title in the Constitution was a natural progression that should face no objections.

The Prime Minister strongly reiterated his commitment to national cohesion, taking a firm stance on contentious issues. "The Kalabagh Dam may be in the national interest, but if it threatens the federation's unity, I cannot support it", he declared, aligning his position with that of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Consensus-Based Constitutional Framework

Shehbaz Sharif made it unequivocally clear that no changes would be made to the 18th Amendment or the NFC Award without achieving complete consensus among all stakeholders. "We will sit together and find solutions through dialogue", he assured, emphasizing the government's commitment to collaborative decision-making on matters of national importance.

The parliamentary session witnessed significant political dynamics as members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a walkout in protest during the voting process. Despite this opposition, the constitutional amendment secured the required two-thirds majority, demonstrating broad-based political support.

Concluding his address on an emotional note, the Prime Minister stated that this achievement would bring peace to the soul of Benazir Bhutto, as Pakistan has attained remarkable respect both militarily and diplomatically on the global stage. He highlighted that Pakistan now enjoys "unprecedented global respect", a level of international recognition that was once considered unattainable for the nation.
