Health authorities in Hyderabad have initiated a significant seven-day campaign to protect the city's children from the crippling poliovirus. The drive, which commenced on a recent Monday, is focused on administering oral polio vaccine drops to a target population of more than 1.1 million children who are under five years of age.
Mobilizing a Vast Workforce for Child Health
To ensure the campaign's success and reach every eligible child, a substantial workforce has been deployed across the district. The operation involves over 3,500 dedicated polio workers, who are moving from house to house in their assigned areas. Their mission is to locate and vaccinate every child within the target age group, leaving no community or neighborhood behind.
This frontline team is supported and supervised by more than 400 area supervisors. Furthermore, the campaign's logistics and coordination are being managed by nearly 100 senior officials, creating a multi-layered structure designed for efficiency and accountability.

A key component of the Hyderabad anti-polio drive is the concentrated effort in specific localities deemed to be at higher risk. The campaign has identified and is prioritizing 52 sensitive union councils within the district. Dr. Moeen Uddin Siddiqui, the District Health Officer (DHO) of Hyderabad, emphasized the critical nature of the campaign. Dr. Siddiqui made a direct appeal to all parents and guardians, urging them to welcome the vaccination teams and ensure that every child under five receives the essential polio drops, regardless of their previous vaccination status.
