CNG Station Fire in Hyderabad Claims Life, Third Incident on Bypass Road in Two Months
Hyderabad CNG Station Fire Kills One, Third Incident in Two Months

A devastating fire erupted at a CNG station in Hyderabad on Friday, resulting in one fatality and spreading panic among nearby residents. The incident occurred at the Star CNG station, situated in close proximity to Wadhu Wah Gate on the Hyderabad Bypass road.

Tragic Incident Unfolds During CNG Refueling

According to Dilbar Halepoto, the official spokesman for Rescue 1122, the fire broke out while a truck was refilling CNG at the station. The flames quickly engulfed the CNG facility and spread to an adjacent house, leading to the tragic death of an unidentified individual who was burned beyond recognition.

Residential Area at Risk

The location of the CNG station posed significant danger as it is surrounded by residential buildings and bungalows. Adding to the hazard, an unauthorized transport stand operates at the same site. Residents of the coterminous buildings experienced intense fear as black smoke from the fire covered the sky, creating a scene of chaos and concern.

Firefighting Efforts and Challenges

Rescue 1122 deployed three fire tenders to combat the blaze, which took more than an hour to fully extinguish. The firefighters demonstrated remarkable efficiency by preventing the fire from spreading beyond the first residential unit it had reached. During the cooling process that followed, rescue workers discovered the completely charred body of the victim at the CNG station.

Investigation Underway

Halepoto confirmed that the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined at this initial stage. Authorities have launched a formal inquiry to investigate the circumstances that led to this tragic incident. The deceased's body has been transferred to Liaquat University Hospital for further procedures.

Pattern of Safety Concerns

This marks the third CNG station fire incident on the Hyderabad Bypass road within a span of approximately two months, all occurring within a stretch of less than two kilometers. The previous incidents include:

  • November 24: First fire incident at a CNG station
  • December 9: Second incident that claimed two lives - a man and his son

Local authorities have maintained silence regarding these repeated incidents, raising serious questions about enforcement of safety regulations and oversight of hazardous facilities operating in residential areas.

Broader Context of Safety Violations

Hyderabad has witnessed several tragic incidents involving fires and explosions at hazardous facilities in recent times:

  1. May 30, 2024: An explosion and fire at an LPG refilling shop in Pareetabad's densely populated area resulted in 27 fatalities, including 20 children.
  2. November 15, 2025: Eight people lost their lives in a blast at an illegally operating fireworks factory in Hyderabad.

These recurring incidents highlight systemic issues regarding safety protocol enforcement and the operation of hazardous businesses in populated urban areas. The pattern suggests a concerning disregard for public safety measures that requires immediate attention from regulatory authorities.
