In a significant move to revolutionize cardiac care in the province, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the introduction of the latest intravascular surgery techniques for treating heart diseases. This modern approach is set to replace traditional open-heart surgeries, offering a safer and more advanced alternative to patients across Punjab.
Delegation from Oklahoma Heart Hospital Proposes Collaboration
The decision came following a crucial meeting held in Lahore on Saturday. A high-level delegation, led by Dr. Naeem Tahirkheli, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the prestigious Oklahoma Heart Hospital in the United States, met with the Chief Minister to discuss potential collaboration.
During the discussions, the delegation briefed CM Maryam Nawaz on the profound benefits of intravascular procedures. These techniques, which include angioplasty, stent placement, and ablation, are performed through minute incisions in blood vessels. This minimally invasive method dramatically lowers surgical risks, cuts down recovery time for patients, and reduces post-operative complications compared to conventional surgery.
Training for Pakistani Doctors and Equipment Procurement
A key component of the new initiative involves extensive professional training. As part of a signed agreement, American cardiac specialists will train Pakistani doctors in these cutting-edge techniques. The training program will initially focus on medical professionals from three major institutions: Children’s Hospital, Nishtar Hospital, and Jinnah Hospital.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz issued immediate directives to the concerned authorities. She ordered the swift introduction of these modern treatment protocols at the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology and the Nawaz Sharif Medical City. Furthermore, she instructed relevant departments to begin the procurement of state-of-the-art medical equipment required for intravascular surgeries without delay.
"Access to modern healthcare facilities is a top priority for the Punjab government," the CM emphasized, underscoring her administration's commitment to upgrading the provincial health infrastructure.
Leveraging Foundation Expertise for Healthcare Goals
The meeting also covered the health and educational services provided by the Rukhsana Foundation. The Chief Minister appreciated the foundation's work and agreed to a proposal to utilize its expertise for training doctors within Punjab. This partnership aligns with her reiterated commitment to strengthening the healthcare system through international collaboration and the adoption of modern medical practices.
This comprehensive plan marks a pivotal step towards transforming cardiac care in Punjab, promising safer, faster, and more effective treatment options for heart patients through innovation and global knowledge exchange.
