The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for possible urban flooding in cities and inundation of low-lying areas as heavy rainfall continues across Pakistan. The authority also cautioned that water levels in rivers could rise significantly, and there is a risk of landslides in mountainous regions, as well as flooding in local streams and rivers.
Rainfall Reported Across Multiple Regions
Rainfall was reported in Gujrat, Narowal, Wazirabad, Daska and Pasroor, while cloudy skies covered Lahore, raising the possibility of showers later in the day. According to the weather forecast, more rain is expected in Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and parts of Balochistan.
NDMA Directives and Public Advisory
The NDMA has directed the relevant government departments to remain on high alert and advised the public to take precautionary measures, especially while travelling. The authority emphasized the need for preparedness to mitigate potential damage from the ongoing weather system.
Punjab Issues Crop Protection Advisory
In response to the monsoon rains, the Punjab government has issued an advisory to protect crops. Farmers are urged to take necessary steps to safeguard their fields from waterlogging and potential damage caused by heavy downpours.
Pakistan Meteorological Department Forecast
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said rain is likely in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Upper Dir, Swat, Kohistan and Waziristan. The Met Office also forecast rainfall in Khuzdar, Kohlu and Barkhan in Balochistan, as the ongoing weather system continues to influence different parts of the country.
