A permit application for an event near Madison Square Garden in New York City has intensified speculation that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce could be planning a wedding during the Fourth of July weekend. Multiple sources confirmed that an event company specializing in weddings submitted the application to New York City's Street Activity Permit Office.
Permit Details and Timeline
The permit, first reported by The New York Times, would allow street closures around Madison Square Garden from July 2 to July 4. The filing also requests a tent or canopy outside the venue and access for trucks to load and unload materials. According to city officials, the plans would accommodate between 500 and 999 attendees in the designated area.
Neither Swift nor Kelce is named on the permit application, according to a city official. CNN reported that two law enforcement sources briefed on the plans confirmed the filing. The event is expected to take place inside Madison Square Garden, a major New York venue located above Penn Station, one of the city's busiest transportation hubs.
Mayor's Comments Fuel Speculation
Further speculation emerged earlier this month when New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani referenced “Taylor Swift's wedding” while discussing security planning for large summer events. "We are the biggest city in the country. We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for this one," Mamdani said. "We know it coincides with the Knicks' Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift's wedding — all happening at the same time — and we are so excited to welcome the world here."
Impact and Unconfirmed Reports
Street closures in the area could affect traffic and travel during a period already expected to see increased activity due to Independence Day celebrations and other major events. A source familiar with invitations reportedly told CNN that guests were informed an event would take place in New York City on July 3. Despite the reports, neither Swift nor Kelce has confirmed any wedding plans, and Swift's representatives have not publicly commented on the speculation.
