Punjab Launches 'Libraries on Wheels' Project in Lahore Schools
Punjab's education authorities have decided to introduce a 'Libraries on Wheels' project in government schools across Lahore to encourage reading habits and expand access to digital learning opportunities for students. The initiative, estimated to cost Rs198 million, will bring a modern mobile library system to schools with the aim of improving educational resources and learning experiences.
As part of the project, 85 electric vehicles will be acquired and transformed into mobile libraries. Each vehicle will be fitted with 20 modern tablets to help students benefit from digital learning tools and educational content. The mobile libraries will also be equipped with large LED screens to support interactive and technology-based learning activities.
Under a fixed schedule, each vehicle will visit one school per day and provide educational services to students. To ensure smooth operations, the electric vehicles will be charged daily at designated charging points within schools. The programme is designed to give students across Lahore equal access to books, learning materials and digital resources.
According to the District Education Authority, the project is expected to strengthen reading culture among students while contributing to an overall improvement in educational standards. CEO Tariq Mahmood said modern digital technology would be utilised to connect students with advanced learning resources. He added that both books and digital educational content would be made available through this innovative programme, creating new learning opportunities for students.
