Traditional Punjabi Games Return to Lahore's Shahdara

The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) successfully revived the cherished tradition of 'Khedan Lahore Diyan' at the historic Shahdara Complex on Monday, creating a vibrant celebration of Punjab's cultural heritage that attracted participants of all ages.

Reviving Childhood Memories Through Traditional Games

The iconic Jahangir's Tomb courtyard transformed into a lively playground as families, children, and visitors enthusiastically participated in numerous traditional Punjabi games. The event featured a diverse range of activities including Latto Game, Kikli, Rassa Koodna, Stappu, Marbles (Kanchay), Pitho Gol Garam, Bandar Killa, Kokla Chhapaki, Sack race and Tug-of-War (Rasa Kashi).

Elderly participants experienced waves of nostalgia as these games brought back cherished childhood memories, while younger generations discovered the joy and simplicity of traditional recreation. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as multiple generations played side by side, creating new memories while honoring old traditions.

Educational Experience for Younger Generation

Schools participated in large numbers, with students showing particular enthusiasm for learning and playing games that their grandparents once enjoyed. The event provided both entertainment and cultural education, bridging the gap between modern entertainment and traditional pastimes.

WCLA Director General Najmus Saqib emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating: "Under the vision of the Punjab government, WCLA is committed to revive Lahore's cultural identity through engaging community events like 'Khedan Lahore Diyan.' Such initiatives not only promote our traditional heritage but also encourage younger generations to take pride in the vibrant history and culture of Punjab."

Preserving Lahore's Cultural Legacy

The successful event demonstrates WCLA's ongoing commitment to preserving both tangible and intangible heritage through inclusive programming. By hosting such activities at historically significant locations like Shahdara Complex, the authority creates meaningful connections between Lahore's architectural heritage and living cultural traditions.

The Walled City of Lahore Authority remains dedicated to its mission of protecting and promoting Lahore's rich cultural legacy through educational and recreational programs that engage the entire community.
