Alhamra Pays Tribute to Writer Bapsi Sidhwa

The Lahore Arts Council, Alhamra, recently hosted a significant ceremony to honor the memory and literary achievements of the celebrated writer Bapsi Sidhwa. This special tribute event recognized her profound contributions to literature and brought together scholars, writers, and admirers of her work.

Distinguished Gathering for a Literary Icon

Organized in partnership with Kinnaird College's International Centre for Pakistani Writing in English (ICPWE), the ceremony attracted numerous prominent figures from academic and literary circles. Chairman Alhamra Razi Ahmed emphasized that while Bapsi Sidhwa has passed away, her intellectual legacy and powerful writings continue to inspire readers globally.

The event welcomed Professor Naveed Shehzad and Perin C. Boga as guests of honor. Other notable attendees included Principal Kinnaird College Dr Iram Anjum, Sir Athar Tahir, Amna Umar, Owais Rana, and Dr Zakia Rasheed, alongside numerous writers and scholars who gathered to pay their respects.

Celebrating Sidhwa's Literary Legacy

Professor Waseem Anwar, Director of ICPWE, delivered an insightful speech exploring Sidhwa's life journey, creative philosophy, and international impact. The tribute program featured multiple components that comprehensively showcased the author's influence.

Attendees experienced documentaries highlighting Sidhwa's remarkable achievements, watched a specially prepared stage sketch, and listened to poetic homages. Kinnaird College alumnae Faiqa Mansab, Dr Sarina Haque, Jameela Naqi, and Kinza Javed shared personal literary experiences connected to Sidhwa's work.

Academic Engagement and Cultural Commitment

The ceremony included substantial academic content with Professor Shahid Imtiaz presenting a research paper on Sidhwa's contributions. Student research papers underwent evaluation by a panel comprising Dr Amra Raza, Dr Rizwan, and Dr Ammara.

Ms Saira Dur and Dr Fatima Saeed also presented detailed analyses of Sidhwa's literary works, adding depth to the academic discourse. The event attracted a substantial audience and featured a book exhibition organized by various publishers.

Through this comprehensive tribute, Alhamra reaffirmed its dedication to promoting literary arts, supporting research initiatives, and nurturing cultural activities within Pakistan's artistic community.
