Internet Restored After Submarine Cable Repair

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Friday that internet services across the country have been fully restored after the successful repair of a fault in the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable system. The regulator confirmed that the cable is now fully operational and internet services have returned to normal capacity nationwide.

PTA Coordination and Traffic Rerouting

According to the PTA, it maintained close coordination with Transworld Associates (TWA) throughout the disruption to ensure the earliest possible restoration. During the repair process, internet traffic was rerouted through alternative international links to minimize the impact on users and maintain service continuity to the maximum extent possible.

Previous Warning and Monitoring

On Thursday, the PTA had warned that the fault could cause intermittent degradation in internet services, leading to periodic connectivity and service quality issues for some users. The regulator stated it will continue to monitor the resilience and performance of Pakistan's international connectivity infrastructure to ensure reliable, secure, and uninterrupted telecommunications and broadband services across the country.
