Transport Alliance Applauds Petrol Price Cut, Urges More Relief

In a recent statement, Malik Shehzad Awan, President of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, expressed gratitude to the government for lowering petrol prices. He emphasized that this reduction would provide significant benefits to both transporters and the general public. Awan voiced optimism that fuel costs would continue to decrease in the near future.

Continued Operations Amid Financial Losses

According to Awan, goods transporters have persevered through challenging economic conditions, often operating at a financial loss, while keeping national interests at the forefront. He highlighted the resilience of the sector during tough times.

Call for Withholding Tax Withdrawal

Awan urged the federal government to revoke the increase in withholding tax proposed in the 2026-27 budget. He appealed to both federal and provincial authorities to extend additional relief to the transport sector by reducing toll taxes, withholding taxes, e-challan charges, and motorway police fines.

The president noted that the transport industry contributes substantially through taxes and should, in return, receive improved facilities and support from government bodies. He stressed the need for a more favorable regulatory environment to ensure the sector's sustainability and growth.
