Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the relevant authorities to expedite work on the 100 Megawatt Solar Power Project in Gilgit-Baltistan and ensure its timely completion. The directive was issued during a review meeting on the 100 MW Solar Power Project for Gilgit-Baltistan, where the Prime Minister stated that the federal government would bear all expenses for the solar power supply initiative benefiting the people of the region.
Transparency Measures Ordered
The Prime Minister further instructed that an impartial third-party validation be conducted to ensure transparency across all project phases. This step aims to maintain accountability and efficient use of resources throughout the implementation process.
Government Buildings Solarization Plan
During the meeting, authorities briefed the Prime Minister on the federal government's solar project in Gilgit-Baltistan. It was revealed that an 18 Megawatt solar power project for government buildings is planned, with completion targets set for December this year in Gilgit and Diamer Divisions, while solarization in Baltistan Division will be finalized by October this year.
Household Solarization Progress
The meeting was also apprised that work on an 82 Megawatt solarization project for households is currently underway in Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas, and Khaplu. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance energy access for local communities.
The review meeting was attended by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Power Sardar Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam, and other senior government officials. Their collective input underscores the government's commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan.
