A property dealer was shot dead in the Rawat area of Rawalpindi on Thursday over a financial dispute, police said. The victim has been identified as Ali Nawazish Bhatti, who was killed allegedly by Sajid Jelani, a business associate, following a prolonged disagreement over outstanding payments.
Incident Details
According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the victim's brother-in-law, Mian Farrukh Latif, Ali Nawazish Bhatti and Latif jointly operated a property office in a private housing society in Rawalpindi. They had been engaged in property dealings with Sajid Jelani, Muhammad Anwar, and Sheikh Yousaf for a considerable period. Ali Nawazish had paid a large amount of money to Sajid Jelani and Sheikh Yousaf. For the past 10 months, Ali Nawazish had been contacting Sajid Jelani for settlement of outstanding payments, but the latter continued to delay the matter.
The Shooting
On the day of the incident, while the victim and his brother-in-law were present at their office, Sajid Jelani arrived with Muhammad Anwar in a vehicle and called Ali Nawazish outside. During the discussion, an argument and scuffle broke out between Sajid Jelani and Ali Bhatti. Sajid Jelani allegedly pulled out a pistol and opened fire on Ali Nawazish, who sustained a bullet injury to the head and was critically wounded. The suspect fled, leaving the pistol in the vehicle.
Aftermath
On their request, Muhammad Anwar drove the injured man to the hospital. However, while Ali Nawazish was being shifted to the emergency ward, Anwar also fled, leaving the vehicle and pistol behind. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Police have registered a case against Sajid Jelani and others under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
