Pakistan Petroleum Imports Up 2.23% in 11 Months

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported that the country's total imports of the petroleum group increased by 2.23 percent during the first eleven months of fiscal year 2025-26 compared to the same period last year. The imports reached $14,953.227 million between July and May 2025-26, up from $14,631.808 million in the corresponding months of the previous fiscal year.

Crude Oil and Petroleum Products Drive Growth

Among petroleum commodities, crude oil imports saw a significant rise of 27.29 percent, increasing from $4,981.299 million in July-May 2024-25 to $6,340.733 million in the same period of 2025-26. Similarly, imports of petroleum products grew by 2.86 percent, from $5,456.150 million to $5,612.274 million. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) imports edged up by 0.10 percent, standing at $983.698 million compared to $982.753 million in the previous year.

LNG Imports Decline Sharply

In contrast, imports of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) decreased by 37.21 percent, dropping from $3,211.257 million to $2,016.240 million. Imports of all other petroleum group products also fell by 19.19 percent, recorded at $0.282 million against $0.349 million.

Monthly Trends Show Volatility

On a year-on-year basis, petroleum imports in May 2026 increased by 7.84 percent to $1,435.930 million from $1,331.592 million in May 2025. However, month-on-month, imports plummeted by 36.78 percent in May 2026 compared to $2,271.311 million in April 2025, according to PBS data.
