Local sources report significant amounts of crude oil visible both along the beach and on the sea surface, indicating widespread contamination in the area. Experts warn that the oil spill could damage fish breeding grounds, disturb coastal habitats, and lead to a decline in fish catch, especially if cleanup operations are delayed.
Possible Causes
Officials suspect that strong westerly winds may have pushed the oil slick toward the Makran coast from offshore waters. They also noted that the nearby Strait of Hormuz, a major global shipping route, lies close to Gwadar. Ocean currents and seasonal wind patterns can sometimes carry pollutants toward the coastline.
Hot conditions are likely across most parts of the country, with sea breezes expected in Karachi.
