Wendy Williams Shares Update on Life in Memory Care Unit
Wendy Williams Update on Memory Care Life

Wendy Williams has offered a fresh glimpse into her life inside a memory care unit in New York, as she continues to fight the conservatorship that has managed her affairs since her health deteriorated. In an interview with the New York Post, the former talk show host opened up about her daily existence at Coterie, an assisted living facility where she has been residing since 2023 after being diagnosed with aphasia and dementia, which forced her retirement in 2021.

Daily Routine and Surroundings

Williams described her environment and routine in detail. “There’s grass, trees, two floors, no cars around. Can’t even do the elevator to go down. It, too, is locked,” she said. “I once was a connoisseur of food, and now sometimes I’ll just have meals in my room. And I don’t drink. And I’m 61. And mine is a locked floor. And there’s also an in and out hospital. There’s always security with me.” She added that she attends church every Sunday at the Christian Cultural Center with a personal aide. Reflecting on her past, she noted, “Understand, I did a daily TV show 14 years. This watching over me also deals with dresses. I was tall. Looking gorgeous. Now all my good stuff’s in storage.”

Physical Activity and Personal Struggles

Williams also mentioned her limited physical activity: “Best I can do is Monday and Friday I go to the gym.” She expressed frustration with her situation, stating, “Let me tell you something else — and that is that I don’t know exactly how, what, why, but I have gone through a lot of sh*t.”

Previous Criticisms and Legal Battle

In a prior interview with The Cut, Williams had described the facility in less favorable terms, calling it a “dump” and requesting a transfer from her floor because she was placed with older residents. Her legal battle over the conservatorship continues. Last year, her attorney Joe Tacopina revealed that Williams has “alcohol-induced dementia,” which he said differs from typical progressive dementia in its progression and impact.
