Police have registered a case over the deadly roof collapse at a private tuition centre in Lahore's Kahna area, where 14 children lost their lives. According to the FIR, lodged on the complaint of the Enforcement Inspector of Nishtar Zone, the tragedy occurred due to alleged negligence and unsafe construction practices. The report states that the tuition centre was operating beneath a structurally weak roof while repair work was underway on the upper portion of the building. Investigators believe the roof gave way after it failed to bear the additional load, burying students under the rubble. Eight children and a female teacher were among those injured in the incident.
Arrests and Investigation
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said police have taken five people into custody, including the building owner. He added that legal action will be initiated against those found responsible after the investigation is completed. In the tragic incident, 14 children lost their lives, while five children and a female teacher suffered injuries. Rescue officials said all of the injured are in stable condition. Two other children were given first aid at the scene and later sent home, while the injured teacher is receiving treatment at Lahore General Hospital.
Survivor Accounts
A student who survived the collapse said workers were carrying out construction on the roof and laying bricks when it suddenly caved in. The student said his brother was trapped beneath the debris and died in the incident, while he managed to escape. Another student recalled that the class was completing an assignment when the roof unexpectedly collapsed. A young girl said she was trapped after a water cooler fell on her leg. She was later rescued by construction workers and local residents.
Building Condition
Residents said repair work was underway on the roof when the incident happened and claimed the building was already in a deteriorated condition. The FIR highlights that the tuition centre was operating illegally in a building not designed for such use, and the roof collapse was a direct result of negligence and poor construction practices.
