Greta Gerwig's Narnia Film Set for Major Theatrical Release
Greta Gerwig's upcoming fantasy film Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is poised for a significant global theatrical rollout, with Sony Pictures Entertainment managing international distribution ahead of its Netflix debut. The movie will debut in IMAX and cinemas worldwide on February 12, 2027, with exclusive IMAX previews starting February 10. According to Netflix, the film will later stream globally on the platform from April 2, 2027.
Sony Pictures will oversee the international theatrical release, while Netflix handles domestic distribution across North America. The release is expected to include major cinema chains such as AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Cineplex, Marcus, and Harkins, along with thousands of regional and independent theaters. This partnership marks another collaboration between Netflix and Sony Pictures, building on their existing distribution and streaming agreements.
Netflix Film chairman Dan Lin stated that the project embodies the type of ambitious filmmaking the company aims to support, giving audiences the opportunity to experience the movie in theaters before its streaming release. Written and directed by Greta Gerwig, Narnia: The Magician's Nephew will be the first screen adaptation of C.S. Lewis's 1955 novel of the same name. The story serves as an origin chapter in the beloved Chronicles of Narnia universe.
The film features a mix of emerging and established talent, including David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep. Produced by Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, Vincent Sieber-Smith, and Gerwig, the movie is also executive produced by Patricia Whitcher, Douglas Gresham, and Melvin Adams for the C.S. Lewis Estate. With Gerwig at the helm, Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is expected to become one of Netflix's biggest fantasy releases, combining a major theatrical launch with a global streaming debut.
