The 14th edition of the prestigious Lahore Open Polo Championship for the Patron's Cup commenced with thrilling action on Tuesday at the Lahore Polo Club. The opening day witnessed decisive victories for BN Polo and Diamond Paints, setting a competitive tone for the tournament.

Strong Patronage Drives Historic Event

Club Secretary, Maj (retd) Amjad Ghafoor, highlighted the significant role of private-sector sponsors in sustaining this historic sporting event. He expressed profound gratitude to the patrons and corporate partners whose collective support makes the championship possible. The list of sponsors includes prominent names such as Babar Naseem, Mir Shoaib Ahmed of Diamond Paints, Dr Faisal Qadeer Khokhar of Remington Pharma, Adnan Jalil Azam of Newage Cables, Farooq Amin Sufi of Master Paints, Abubakar Siddique of Black Horse Paints, Hamza Ali Hakeem of AOS, Nafees Barry of Happy Cow Cheese, and Taimur Ali Malik of Guard Group.

Competitive Format and Opening Day Clashes

A total of nine teams are vying for the title, divided into two pools. The first day featured two highly engaging matches that delighted the spectators.

In the inaugural match, BN Polo delivered an impressive performance to overcome Newage Cables/SQ Seagold with a score of 8-6. The victory was spearheaded by a stellar display from Hamza Mawaz Khan, who netted an outstanding six goals. Babar Naseem and Ibrahim Khalil contributed one goal each to secure the win for their side.

Diamond Paints Dominates with Convincing Win

The second encounter saw Diamond Paints assert complete dominance over Team Balochistan, clinching a convincing 9-3 victory. Mir Huzaifa Ahmed was the standout performer, scoring five goals for the winning team. He received strong support from Raja Temur Nadeem, who added three goals, and Mir Shoaib Ahmed, who chipped in with one. For Team Balochistan, Omar Asjad Malhi managed to score twice, while Marcos Rivarola added a solitary goal.

The successful opening day has set high expectations for the remainder of the Lahore Open Polo Championship 2025, promising more exciting polo action in the days to come as the teams compete for the coveted Patron's Cup.
