Senior Police Officer to be Honoured for Historic Sports Achievement

In a significant recognition of sporting excellence, a senior police official is set to receive one of the nation's prestigious awards. Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, the Chairman of the Police Sports Board and DIG Traffic Karachi, will be honoured with the Quaid-e-Azam gold medal and a special reception in the first week of January. The honour is in recognition of his pivotal role in the historic organization of the Sukkur International Marathon.

A Landmark Event for Sukkur and Pakistan

The announcement was made by Ghulam Muhammad Khan, Secretary of the Firdous Ittehad Social and Sports Welfare Organisation and former president of the Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA). Khan hailed the organization of an international marathon in a city like Sukkur as a remarkable achievement. The event successfully drew a global field, with participation from athletes representing nine different countries.

The marathon saw intense competition, featuring 24 international runners alongside thousands of Pakistani participants from across the nation. The scale of the event was matched by its rewards, with cash prizes and other awards worth millions of rupees distributed among the competitors.

International Dominance and Local Spirit

The competitive results highlighted the international caliber of the event. Foreign athletes clinched the top three positions in the marathon. An athlete from Rawalpindi secured a commendable fourth-place finish, while the fifth and sixth positions were also taken by international runners. This mix of global and local talent underscored the event's success in putting Sukkur on the international sports map.

Ghulam Muhammad Khan further elaborated on DIG Syed Pir Muhammad Shah's consistent contributions to sports. The senior officer has a notable track record, having previously won the award for leading the best marching contingent at the National Games. He also played a key role in reviving and organizing the historic Sindh Police Games after a gap of 14 years.

Gratitude and Future Hopes

Khan extended congratulations to other key figures and institutions whose support was instrumental in the marathon's success. He specifically thanked Sukkur Commissioner Saleem Khan, MD of SSWMB Tariq Ali Nizamani, Pakistan Beverages, Ziauddin Hospital, and other supporting organizations.

Expressing optimism for the future, Khan voiced his hope that the Sukkur International Marathon would become a regular annual feature. Establishing such a tradition would not only promote sports and healthy living but also consistently showcase the city of Sukkur as a capable host for world-class events, boosting local pride and tourism.
