In a thrilling display of cricketing prowess, SNGPL returned to winning ways with a commanding 53-run victory over KRL at the KCCA Stadium in Karachi on Friday. This decisive win concluded the sixth round of the tournament and propelled SNGPL to the summit of the eight-team points table, effectively restoring their momentum after a record-breaking defeat to PTV in the previous round.
Points Table Shake-Up as SNGPL Takes the Lead
With four victories from six matches, SNGPL now leads the standings with an impressive 114 points, significantly strengthening their bid for a coveted place in the tournament’s five-day final. WAPDA remains hot on their heels in second place, having secured four wins and accumulated 102 points. Despite the setback, KRL holds firm in third position with 97 points, keeping them firmly in contention as the competition intensifies.
Match Highlights: SNGPL's Bowling Attack Shines
On the final day, KRL faced a daunting task, needing 120 runs with only four wickets in hand to chase a target of 234, or alternatively, to bat out the day for a draw. However, SNGPL's formidable bowling attack, spearheaded by Test pacer Mohammad Ali and Test off-spinner Sajid Khan, proved too strong. The contest was wrapped up within 25.1 overs, with KRL captain Iftikhar Ahmed and Hamza Nazar briefly delaying the inevitable through a determined 56-run partnership for the seventh wicket.
Iftikhar showed commendable resistance, scoring 63 runs off 176 deliveries, but eventually fell leg-before to Mohammad Ali, who was later named player of the match for his outstanding performance.
