Gilgit-Baltistan emerged victorious in the final of the Shandur Polo Festival, defeating Chitral 6-5 in a thrilling encounter at the iconic Shandur Polo Ground, widely known as the world's highest polo field. The closely contested match saw Chitral dominate much of the first half, taking a 5-4 lead with an impressive attacking display. However, Gilgit-Baltistan staged a remarkable comeback in the latter stages of the game, scoring crucial goals to secure a narrow one-goal victory and lift the championship trophy.
Historic Triumph Ends Chitral's Dominance
The triumph marked a significant milestone for Gilgit-Baltistan, ending Chitral's dominance of the tournament after 13 years and adding a new chapter to the historic rivalry between the two mountain regions. The final match was formally inaugurated by Corps Commander Lieutenant General Umar Ahmed Bukhari, who served as the chief guest and initiated the contest by throwing the ceremonial ball. Following the final whistle, players and supporters from Gilgit-Baltistan celebrated their historic victory, while spectators enjoyed a memorable showcase of traditional freestyle mountain polo, a sport deeply rooted in the culture of northern Pakistan.

The festival was organized with the support of the Pakistan Army, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority, Chitral Scouts, and the local administration. Among the dignitaries attending the final were Major General Rao Imran, Colonel Arsalan, Masood Ahmed, Saadat Hassan, Shahid Khan, and Muhammad Imran. Thousands of visitors from across Pakistan and abroad attended the event, reinforcing the Shandur Polo Festival's reputation as one of the country's premier cultural and sporting attractions, while also promoting tourism and showcasing the unique heritage of the northern regions.
