Barcelona have exercised their purchase option to sign Egypt forward Hamza Abdelkarim on a permanent transfer from Al Ahly, the LaLiga club announced in a statement on Tuesday. The 18-year-old international has committed to a three-year contract that will keep him at the Camp Nou until June 30, 2029.
Loan Move Made Permanent
Abdelkarim initially joined Barcelona on loan from Egyptian club Al Ahly during the winter transfer window, with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. Barcelona have now activated that clause, securing the young forward's services on a long-term basis.
“FC Barcelona has informed Al Ahly that it is exercising its purchase option for Hamza Abdelkarim. The Egyptian forward will join the club on a permanent basis and will sign a contract for the next three seasons, until 30 June 2029,” the club's statement read.
Impressive Youth Record
During his loan spell, Abdelkarim made a strong impression for Barcelona's under-19 side, scoring six goals in just 11 appearances. His performances convinced the club to trigger the buy option ahead of the 2026-27 season.
World Cup Duty
Abdelkarim is currently representing Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he has already featured in the team's opening two group matches against Belgium and New Zealand. The tournament experience is expected to further aid his development as he prepares to join Barcelona's senior setup.
The signing reinforces Barcelona's strategy of investing in young talent, with Abdelkarim becoming the latest promising forward to join the club's ranks. He will look to follow in the footsteps of other La Masia graduates and established stars at the Camp Nou.
