Twelve people have died in a plane crash that occurred on Sunday in Butler, Missouri, according to the state highway patrol. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash took place near the Butler Memorial Airport. In a post on social media platform X, the agency stated, "At this time, reports indicate all occupants (12 total) have perished." Butler is located approximately 60 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri.
Rio de Janeiro Helicopter Collision
Earlier, a mid-air collision between two helicopters in Rio de Janeiro claimed six lives, as reported by local media. The incident occurred around 11:59 GMT in the southwestern neighborhood of Recreio dos Bandeirantes, according to Globo News. One of the helicopters was carrying four passengers and a pilot, while the other was operated solely by a pilot. A spokesperson for the Rio de Janeiro Fire Department confirmed that no one on board survived.
Details of the Crash
One of the aircraft exploded upon impact near a parking lot containing electric vehicles, triggering secondary blasts and producing a column of smoke visible from miles away. The second helicopter landed upside down but did not catch fire. Debris from the wreckage scattered across a radius of at least 100 meters, with portions of the fuselage landing on the terraces of neighboring buildings.
