Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon Orders Crackdown on Eid Fare Overcharging
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has issued a directive for the immediate launch of a comprehensive campaign targeting transporters who are overcharging fares in anticipation of Eidul Fitr. This move aims to alleviate the financial strain on passengers during the festive season, ensuring that travel remains affordable and accessible for all.
Immediate Action Ordered Across Multiple Agencies
Memon has instructed a wide range of authorities to take swift and decisive action. This includes the police, district administrations, the National Highway Authority (NHA), traffic authorities, the transport department, and all other relevant bodies. He emphasized that these institutions must work collaboratively to enforce government-approved fare rates and prevent any unauthorized increases.
The minister highlighted that certain transporters have been arbitrarily raising fares, which places an undue financial burden on passengers. He stated that providing maximum relief to the public and curbing such practices is a fundamental responsibility of the relevant institutions. Memon stressed that all officers have been directed to take immediate action within their respective jurisdictions against those charging excessive fares.
Daily Reporting and Priority on Passenger Safety
To ensure accountability and transparency, Memon has mandated that reports of daily operations be submitted to the department on a regular basis.
