Punjab Government Initiates Nighaban Card Distribution for Minority Communities
The Punjab government has officially commenced the distribution of Nighaban Cards among members of the minority community, marking a significant step in its welfare initiatives. This program is designed to provide direct financial support to enhance the livelihoods of minority groups across the province.
Ceremony Led by MNA Tahira Aurangzeb
Member of the National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb presided over the distribution ceremony, which was held at the auditorium of Waqarun Nisa College in Rawalpindi. The event witnessed a large attendance from men and women belonging to various minority communities, reflecting widespread interest and participation.
During her address, Aurangzeb highlighted that 1,000 Nighaban Cards have already been prepared for distribution. She assured that this number will be increased gradually to extend the benefits to more individuals in need. The cards enable beneficiaries to withdraw Rs10,500 every three months, providing a steady source of financial assistance to meet essential needs.
Government's Commitment to Welfare and Development
Aurangzeb emphasized that the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is dedicated to delivering facilities directly to people's doorsteps. She praised the chief minister for initiating a new era of development and welfare programs that aim to improve the quality of life for all residents.
She stated, "The participants here are fortunate to witness development that previous generations could not see. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has begun a transformative phase in providing basic facilities, but such efforts require careful management of resources."
Addressing Population Growth Challenges
In her speech, Aurangzeb pointed out the critical issue of population growth, noting that it can hinder the success of welfare programs by straining resources. She stressed the importance of population control measures to ensure that resources and facilities remain sustainable and accessible to all.
To illustrate this point, she shared an anecdote from her visit to the UK Parliament, where she observed a dispute over immigration policies. "When I inquired, I learned that the debate centered on amending nationality laws to extend the residency period from five to ten years, aimed at controlling population growth. This highlights a global concern that we must address locally," she explained.
Visible Improvements and Future Plans
Aurangzeb also commented on the visible improvements in Punjab's infrastructure and cleanliness, citing Murree Road as an example of enhanced beauty and urban development. She affirmed that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's vision is now evident across the province, with the Nighaban Card program being a key component of this broader strategy.
She added, "The chief minister has acted like a mother in providing relief to the people, and it is imperative that other provinces follow suit in supporting minority communities." The program not only offers financial aid but also symbolizes the government's inclusive approach to development.
Expansion of the Nighaban Card Initiative
With 1,000 cards already prepared, the government plans to expand this initiative in the future to include more beneficiaries. This expansion aligns with the goal of ensuring that all minority community members have access to necessary support systems.
The Nighaban Card scheme represents a proactive effort by the Punjab government to foster social equity and economic stability, setting a precedent for other regions to emulate in caring for their minority populations.
