In a significant boost to Punjab's agricultural sector, State Minister for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kiyani distributed tractors to 103 farmers in Jhelum district on Sunday. The distribution ceremony marked a key milestone in the Punjab government's Green Tractors Scheme, which aims to revolutionize farming practices across the province.
Major Subsidy for Agricultural Modernization
During the ceremony, Minister Kiyani revealed that each tractor came with a substantial subsidy of Rs 1 million, making modern agricultural machinery accessible to farmers at affordable prices. He emphasized that this initiative represents the government's strong commitment to transforming Punjab's agricultural landscape through technological advancement.
The minister highlighted that providing modern equipment like super seeders, balers, and Kubota machines has already shown positive results in reducing crop residue burning and combating smog, while simultaneously promoting contemporary farming techniques that increase productivity.
E-Mechanization: A New Agricultural Era
Minister Kiyani declared that "E-mechanization marks the beginning of a new era in Punjab's agriculture", stressing the direct connection between farmer prosperity and Pakistan's overall progress. He noted that the agriculture sector remains the backbone of the country's economy, and the government is determined to modernize it for enhanced output and sustainability.
The ceremony saw participation from key local officials including Deputy Commissioner Jhelum Mir Raza Ozgan and officers from the agriculture department, alongside a large gathering of farmers who expressed appreciation for the government's support.
Infrastructure Development and Anti-Terrorism Commitment
Beyond agricultural initiatives, Minister Kiyani outlined several ongoing public welfare projects including the Suthra Punjab campaign and Kisan Card program. He made firm commitments to early construction of the 128 km Lilla-Jhelum dual carriageway and announced plans for healthcare infrastructure upgrades.
The minister also visited the family of Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah, who tragically lost his life during the recent suicide attack outside Islamabad Judicial Complex. During his visit, Kiyani conveyed condolences from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and assured the family of the official martyr package, which includes full state responsibility for the children's upbringing and welfare.
Minister Kiyani reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to eliminating terrorism, stating that both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir are fully dedicated to uprooting this menace from the country. He condemned terrorists for defaming both Islam and humanity while acknowledging the sacrifices made by armed forces in this ongoing battle.
