LDA Launches Rs2.44 Billion Lahore Metro Bus Green Line Upgrade
LDA's Rs2.44bn Lahore Metro Bus Upgrade Plan

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has initiated a major rehabilitation and solarisation program for the Lahore Metro Bus Green Line, approving a substantial project valued at Rs2.44 billion. This ambitious initiative aims to comprehensively upgrade the 27-kilometer corridor stretching from Gajjumatta to Shahdara, focusing on modernizing stations, mechanical systems, and commuter facilities for the decade-old bus system.

Project Breakdown and Financial Allocation

According to the official tender documents, the extensive scheme has been strategically divided into four distinct packages to streamline execution. The first package covers the section from Gajjumatta to Chungi Amar Sidhu with an estimated cost of Rs611.5 million. The second package, from Ghazi Road to Kalma Chowk, is valued at Rs542.7 million.

The third segment, spanning from Canal Station to MAO College, carries the highest estimated cost of Rs711.8 million. Finally, the work from Civil Secretariat to Niazi Chowk is budgeted at Rs577.3 million.

Comprehensive Modernization Efforts

Officials detailed that the project's core objective is a complete overhaul of the aging infrastructure. The plan includes extensive architectural upgrades and mechanical replacements. Specific work will involve refurbishing stations, repairing their steel structures, and installing new glazing and louvres.

Furthermore, worn-out flooring will be replaced, signage will be updated for better navigation, and fresh interior and exterior coatings will be applied to revitalize the commuter experience across all stations.

A Green Shift with Solarisation

A pivotal and forward-thinking component of this project is its focus on solarisation. The LDA plans to construct dedicated inverter rooms at various stations to support the installation of solar power systems.

This green initiative is intended to significantly cut operational costs and reduce the Metro Bus system's dependence on the national grid, promoting sustainable public transport in Lahore.

The comprehensive rehabilitation of the Lahore Metro Bus Green Line marks a significant investment in the city's public transport infrastructure, promising enhanced reliability and a modern travel experience for thousands of daily commuters.
