Karachi Experiences Light Rain and Drizzle as Western Weather System Approaches
Karachi Light Rain and Drizzle as Weather System Moves In

Light rain and drizzle were observed in multiple areas of Karachi on Thursday as rain bands advanced closer to the metropolis, particularly from the northwestern direction, according to weather observers. The precipitation varied in intensity, with drizzle and light showers noted in localities such as Garden East, Saddar's Show Market, Ramswami, Al-Bila, and Lyari.

Rainfall Patterns and Wind Conditions

Moderate to heavy rain was reported in parts of North Karachi and Surjani Town, with residents of Saima Arabian Villas in Surjani describing heavy rainfall. Additionally, rain was recorded at the Soak Centre, while North Karachi's UP Mor, Nagan, and surrounding areas experienced intermittent light to moderate showers.

Strong winds were a notable feature in North Karachi, blowing at higher-than-usual speeds. Gusty winds across the city transformed into colder breezes, and dusty winds were reported in some suburban regions, adding to the dynamic weather conditions.

PMD Forecast and Weather System Impact

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and gusty winds between the afternoon and evening. Officials indicated that the effects of a new western weather system had begun to emerge over Karachi, with wind speeds gradually increasing and currently recorded at around 40 kilometres per hour.

They added that wind speeds during the day might exceed 50 to 55 kilometres per hour, highlighting the system's intensity. The weather department further stated that rain is expected across Sindh over the next three hours as the rain-bearing system moves towards the western parts of the province.

Expected Rainfall in Sindh and Temperature Outlook

Rain is forecast in several districts, including Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Jamshoro, Hyderabad, and surrounding areas. Cold conditions are anticipated to persist in Karachi for the next few days, influenced by cold winds from Balochistan.

Due to these winds, the minimum temperature in the city on Friday is likely to range between 7 and 9 degrees Celsius. The PMD mentioned that the weather is expected to remain cold and dry over the next 24 hours, with light fog reported in the morning reducing visibility to two kilometres and humidity recorded at 84 per cent.

Temperature Records and Projections

On Thursday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 13.5 degrees Celsius. For context, the maximum temperature on Wednesday reached 27.1 degrees Celsius, while today's maximum temperature is expected to remain between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius, indicating a significant cooling trend.

This weather shift underscores the impact of the approaching system, bringing relief from warmer conditions but also potential disruptions due to wind and rain. Residents are advised to stay updated with PMD alerts as the situation evolves.
