Police in the federal capital have apprehended a suspect following a brazen attempted abduction at gunpoint in the Tarnol area, an incident that underscores rising concerns over street crime.
Dramatic Confrontation at New Shop
The tense episode unfolded on Sunday, December 5, shortly after Maghrib prayers. According to the First Information Report (FIR No. 805/25), the complainant, Burhanuddin, a resident of Noor Hospital-26 Number Chungi, was at his newly established small shop when he was confronted by Muhammad Ishaq.
Burhanuddin had previously worked as a technician at Ishaq's medical store near Motorway Chowk but left the job due to unresolved disputes over unpaid wages. After setting up his own business near Noor Hospital, he was allegedly visited by his former employer.
Alleged Abduction Attempt and Local Intervention
The FIR details that Ishaq first verbally abused Burhanuddin and demanded he return to work at the medical store. Upon Burhanuddin's refusal, the situation escalated violently.
Ishaq is accused of pulling out a pistol concealed in his waistband, pressing the weapon against Burhanuddin's temple, and forcibly dragging him out of his shop. The assailant then attempted to push the victim into a waiting vehicle.
However, the commotion attracted the attention of alert local residents, who intervened decisively. The bystanders managed to free Burhanuddin from his captor's grip and also disarmed the suspect, preventing a potentially tragic outcome.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Responding promptly to the scene, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police officers collected crucial evidence, including eyewitness accounts and video footage from the area. The suspect was taken into custody, and the case was officially transferred to the Tarnol Police Station for further investigation.
The police have registered the case under serious sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. The charges include Section 365, pertaining to kidnapping or abduction with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person, and Section 506(ii), which deals with criminal intimidation involving threats to life or property.
This arrest highlights the critical role of community vigilance and swift police response in thwarting criminal activities in the capital. Authorities continue their investigation to examine all aspects of the case.
