Islamabad Police Arrests 586 in 10-Day Crackdown, Crime Drops 48%
Islamabad Police: 586 Arrests, Crime Rate Down 48% in 2026

In a powerful start to the new year, Islamabad Police have reported a significant decline in criminal activity across the capital, attributing the success to an intensive and multi-faceted security operation.

Major Arrests and Staggering Recoveries

According to an official spokesman, the police force arrested a total of 586 suspects during the first ten days of 2026. This aggressive crackdown has yielded a remarkable 48 percent reduction in the crime rate compared to the same period last year. The operations led to the recovery of stolen property valued at approximately Rs40 million.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, Qazi Ali Raza, provided detailed breakdowns of the achievements. The police successfully busted 11 criminal gangs involved in various felonies, including robbery, street crime, and vehicle theft. These gangs comprised 27 members in total. From the apprehended individuals, authorities recovered 7 vehicles, 17 motorcycles, and a large quantity of snatched and stolen items worth millions of rupees.

Targeting Hardened Criminals and Organized Crime

The campaign placed special emphasis on tracking down repeat offenders. As a result, 187 proclaimed offenders and criminals with previous records were taken into custody. In a parallel move against organized land grabbing, the police registered three cases against the land mafia within the same ten-day period, vowing to act without discrimination.

Under the ongoing "Weapon-Free Islamabad" campaign, a dedicated push against illegal arms led to the arrest of 72 suspects. The seized arsenal included 9 rifles, 3 shotguns, 52 pistols, 4 daggers, and 526 rounds of ammunition.

Narcotics, Public Outreach, and Social Evils

The special "No More Drugs" anti-narcotics drive also saw substantial action, with 51 cases registered and 53 drug dealers arrested. The confiscated contraband included 9 kilograms of hashish, 8 kilograms of heroin, over 4 kilograms of ice (crystal meth), and 225 bottles of liquor.

To bridge the gap with citizens, Islamabad Police officers organized more than 32 open courts to ensure the prompt resolution of public complaints. Furthermore, in an operation targeting organized begging, 61 professional beggars were arrested. To proactively prevent crime, the force conducted over 53 search operations across the city to maintain law and order.

SSP Qazi Ali Raza reiterated that the protection of citizens' lives and property remains the top priority for Islamabad Police. The comprehensive results from these initial days of 2026 demonstrate a committed effort to make the capital a safer place for all its residents.
