Federal Minister Amir Muqam Reviews Law and Order in Gilgit-Baltistan
Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Engineer Amir Muqam, conducted a series of telephone conversations with senior officials in Gilgit-Baltistan to comprehensively review the law and order situation in the region. The discussions aimed to address recent unrest and ensure public safety and stability.
High-Level Consultations with GB Officials
During the calls, Minister Amir Muqam engaged with key figures including Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Syed Mehdi Shah, Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Yaar Muhammad, former chief minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, Chief Secretary Abrar Ahmed Mirza, and Inspector General of Police Dr Nasser Akbar Khan. These consultations focused on the overall security and administrative challenges facing the area.
The minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and significant damage to property resulting from recent protests. He emphasized that such incidents severely disrupt public life and essential services, highlighting the urgent need for resolution through peaceful dialogue and lawful measures.
Call for Detailed Reporting and Unity
In a proactive move, Engineer Amir Muqam directed the GB Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report on the incidents. This report is to include an analysis of the reasons behind the unrest, steps already taken by the administration, and an assessment of the current ground situation to inform future actions.
The minister also conveyed grief over the reported martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, noting that this event has caused widespread sadness among people in Pakistan. He stressed that moments of loss require national unity and calm to navigate challenges effectively.
Appeal to Community Leaders and Citizens
Addressing the specific situation in Gilgit-Baltistan, Amir Muqam made a special appeal to religious scholars, political leaders, and local elders to play a constructive role in de-escalating tensions. He urged them to maintain close contact with the public and use their influence to promote restraint and guidance.
He noted that these community leaders possess significant influence at the local level and can help convey messages of peace, thereby supporting administrative efforts to restore normalcy.
