A tragic road accident on Rawalpindi's busy Murree Road claimed two lives and left two others injured on Monday morning, after a speeding car lost control and crashed into multiple vehicles.
Chronology of a Fatal Collision
The incident occurred at approximately 8:40 a.m. near the 6th Road flyover. According to police officials, a Honda City car, being driven at high speed, veered out of control after coming down from the flyover. The car first collided with the central median before hitting other vehicles.
Initial reports state the car struck a Toyota Corolla, seriously injuring its driver, who was identified as Munir, a resident of Islamabad. Immediately afterwards, the speeding vehicle slammed into a motorcycle carrying two men, killing both riders instantly.
Victims and Immediate Aftermath
The deceased motorcyclists were named as Muhammad Zohaib, 35, from Mughalabad, and Rizwan Ali, 42, from Dhoke Syedan, both in Rawalpindi. Another motorcyclist, Muhammad Muzamal, 21 from Kotha Kalan, sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Rescue teams from Rescue 1122 arrived promptly at the scene. Usman Gujjar, the emergency service's media coordinator for Rawalpindi, confirmed that all the victims were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Legal Action and Police Investigation
In a concerning development, police confirmed that the woman driving the Honda City fled the scene after causing the accident. The New Town police registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on the complaint of a police official who was part of a patrol team present on Murree Road.
The unidentified driver has been booked under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including:
- Section 322 (manslaughter by negligence)
- Section 427 (mischief causing damage)
- Section 279 (rash or negligent driving)
- Section 337-G (causing hurt by negligent driving)
Authorities have stated that efforts are actively underway to trace and arrest the suspect responsible for the fatal hit and run incident.
