In a decisive move to protect public health, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has cracked down on a sugar mill in Muzaffargarh district for serious violations of food safety regulations. The authority imposed a heavy fine and destroyed a large cache of expired industrial chemicals discovered on the premises.
Major Haul of Expired Chemicals Uncovered
Acting on its mandate, a PFA food safety team conducted a rigorous inspection at a sugar mill located in Anwar Abad, Muzaffargarh. The operation was led by Director Operations South, Shehzad Khan Magsi. During the raid, the team made a alarming discovery: more than 500 kilograms (over 12 maunds) of chemicals used in sugar production that had passed their expiry date by more than three years. Shockingly, these expired chemicals were still intended for use in the active sugar processing cycle.
Multiple Violations Lead to Severe Penalty
The infractions at the mill were not limited to the possession of expired materials. PFA officials found the management to be in clear breach of prescribed hygiene and storage standards, compounding the risk to food safety. For these combined violations of the Punjab Food Authority Act, the sugar mill was slapped with a substantial fine of Rs 500,000. The expired chemical stock was immediately confiscated and destroyed on-site to prevent any potential misuse.
PFA's Zero-Tolerance Stance on Public Health
PFA Focal Person Haider Gilani confirmed the details of the enforcement action. The Director General of the Punjab Food Authority emphasized that this operation is part of a broader, uncompromising campaign. He stated that, following the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, indiscriminate actions are being taken against all elements that threaten public health. The authority reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring the supply of safe and quality food to every citizen, promising to continue its strict vigilance and enforcement across the entire province.
