Police Encounter in Multan Results in Arrest of Injured Robber
In a late-night incident on Sunday, police in Multan successfully apprehended a robber in an injured condition after a dramatic encounter near Usman Ghani Road Chowk. The operation, which unfolded under the jurisdiction of the New Multan Police Station, highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat street crime in the city.
Details of the Robbery and Police Response
According to official police sources, a patrol team was conducting routine checks and snap checking when they received an urgent call via the emergency number 15. The report indicated that three unidentified armed men on a motorcycle had robbed a citizen at gunpoint. The perpetrators snatched a mobile phone, a wallet containing cash and important documents, as well as gold jewelry, before fleeing towards Usman Ghani Road.
Acting swiftly, the police immediately established a blockade near Usman Ghani Chowk to intercept the suspects. During the checking process, two motorcycles were observed approaching from the direction of Bakarabad Pull. When signaled to stop, the suspects dismounted and opened direct fire on the police party in a desperate attempt to escape the scene.
Exchange of Fire and Injuries
In response to the attack, the police took cover and retaliated with aerial firing in self-defense. The exchange of fire was intense, with one bullet striking Sub-Inspector Riaz Hussain on the chest. Fortunately, he remained unharmed due to wearing a bulletproof jacket, underscoring the importance of protective gear in such dangerous situations.
After the firing subsided, police advanced and discovered one suspect injured on the ground. It was determined that the injury resulted from firing by his own accomplice during the chaotic encounter. A 30-bore pistol was recovered from the injured suspect and taken into police custody.
Identification and Recovery of Stolen Items
The injured suspect was identified as Muhammad Mohsin, son of Muhammad Ashraf, a resident of Lohari Gate in Multan. His accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness while continuing to fire, evading capture for the time being.
During a subsequent search, police recovered a mobile phone and gold jewelry that were positively identified by the complainant and witnesses as the stolen items. Additionally, a motorcycle that had been snatched during previous criminal incidents was also found in the suspect's possession, linking him to other unlawful activities.
Ongoing Investigations and Medical Treatment
Following the arrest, senior police officers were promptly informed, and further blockades were ordered across the area to track down the escaped accomplices. The injured accused, Muhammad Mohsin, was shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan by Rescue 1122 for necessary medical treatment. His condition is being monitored as investigations continue to unfold.
This incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement personnel in their daily duties and the critical role of community reporting in aiding police operations. The recovery of stolen property and the arrest of a suspect are seen as positive steps in curbing crime in Multan.
