In a major victory against the narcotics trade, the Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department of Sukkur has confiscated a substantial quantity of drugs and apprehended several individuals in coordinated raids. The operations, conducted on Monday in the Rohri area, underscore the government's intensified campaign against drug trafficking networks.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Yields Results
The crackdown was executed under the clear directives of Sindh's Minister for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Mukesh Kumar Chawla. Officials stated that these actions are a direct implementation of the department's zero-tolerance policy against the scourge of narcotics, aiming to dismantle supply chains and protect the community.
First Operation Near SIUT Hospital
In the first successful raid, a team led by Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer (AETO) Qamaruddin Siyal intercepted a Prins Pearl car near the SIUT Hospital in Rohri. Upon search, the officials discovered and seized a hefty 25 kilograms of high-quality charas from the vehicle. The authorities took the driver, identified as Islam Khan, into custody immediately.
A formal case under the stringent Narcotics Act has been registered against the suspect at the NPS Rohri Circle police station, initiating legal proceedings.
Second Bust on Abra Link Road
In a separate but simultaneous operation on Abra Link Road in the Kandhira locality, the excise team stopped an Alto car. This inspection led to the recovery of an additional 24 kilograms of charas. This operation resulted in the arrest of three more suspects, who have been named as Owaid Ahmed, Waseem Ahmed, and Muhammad Athar.
Similar to the first case, legal action has been initiated against the trio under the Narcotics Act at the NPS Rohri Circle police station.
Continued Crackdown on Smugglers
Speaking on the successful operations, AETO Qamaruddin Siyal emphasized the department's unwavering commitment. He stated that such actions against drug peddlers and smugglers will continue unabated. The primary objective remains to safeguard the youth from the devastating effects of drug addiction and to cripple the illegal trade that fuels it.
The seizure of a total of 49 kilograms of charas in a single day marks a significant blow to local drug syndicates. The arrests of the four individuals are expected to lead to further investigations and potentially uncover broader networks involved in the narcotics trade in the region.
