The Director General of the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA), Afshan Rubab Syed, conducted a comprehensive review of major water supply projects on Saturday. The focus was on ensuring a sustainable water source for the authority's large-scale housing schemes, which encompass approximately 33,500 plots.
Dual-Source Water Supply Plan Unveiled
During the review, officials briefed the DG on a critical initiative to supply 10 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to the Gulistan-e-Sarmast project located in Kohsar Town. According to HDA spokesman Nadeem Yousuf, the project will draw water from two separate and reliable sources to meet the substantial demand.
The primary source will be the mighty River Indus, with the intake point situated near Habib agricultural farms. The secondary source will be a canal linked to the Kotri Barrage. In preparation for this, the HDA is currently establishing a dedicated pumping station near Hatri Town to facilitate the extraction and distribution from this canal source.
On-Ground Inspection of Infrastructure
Following the briefing, DG Afshan Rubab Syed took a firsthand tour of the development site. She visited sectors 1 through 5 of the Gulistan-e-Sarmast housing scheme to personally assess the progress of ongoing infrastructure development works. This inspection allowed her to evaluate the groundwork that will support the new water supply network and other civic amenities essential for future residents.
Ensuring Development Amidst Weather Predictions
The review and inspection come as the meteorological office forecasts cold and dry weather conditions across Sindh. The HDA's push to secure water infrastructure highlights a proactive approach to urban development, ensuring that essential utilities are in place for the burgeoning population. The completion of these water supply schemes is vital for the habitability and success of the mega housing projects, which aim to address Hyderabad's growing housing needs.
The authority's commitment to developing a robust, dual-source water supply system underscores its focus on providing long-term solutions and preventing future water scarcity for thousands of families.
