The Regional Meteorological Center in Balochistan has issued a significant weather advisory, predicting a spell of active weather across the province. Widespread rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in upper regions are expected from Friday, December 29, through Sunday, December 31. This system is set to bring a sharp change in conditions, affecting numerous districts.

Detailed District-Wise Forecast and Expected Conditions

According to the detailed advisory, rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to lash a long list of districts. These include Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, and Zhob. The forecast also extends to Kalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Musakhel, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, and Kharan. Snowfall is specifically anticipated in the mountainous and upper terrains during this three-day period, which could impact travel and daily life.

Timeline of the Incoming Weather System

The weather pattern will unfold in phases. On Sunday, December 31, most of the province will experience cold and dry weather, with very cold conditions prevailing in the northern districts. Skies in the north and northwest may be partly cloudy. As the system develops, Monday, January 1, is expected to see a continuation of cold and dry weather in most parts, with severe cold gripping the northern regions.

The Met Office specifically highlighted that during the evening and night hours from December 29, the mentioned districts should prepare for rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. The hilly and mountainous areas remain on alert for potential snowfall during these hours.

Current Temperatures and Official Precautionary Advice

The warning comes as a cold spell intensifies across Balochistan. In the past 24 hours, Kalat recorded the province's lowest temperature at a freezing minus 3 degrees Celsius. This serves as a precursor to the expected harsh conditions.

In light of the forecast, the concerned authorities have issued advisories urging residents to take necessary precautions. People living in northern and mountainous districts are particularly advised to prepare for the expected cold wave, rainfall, and possible snowfall. This includes ensuring adequate heating, safeguarding livestock, and exercising caution while traveling on potentially slippery roads in the hills.
