PPP Initiates Major Restructuring with Town-Level Appointments in Lahore
In a significant move to revitalize its organizational framework, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has officially announced new office-bearers at the town level in Lahore. This initiative marks the first phase of a comprehensive restructuring plan aimed at strengthening the party's presence across the provincial capital.
Ceremony and Key Appointments
The notification distribution ceremony was held at the Peoples Secretariat in Model Town on Sunday, presided over by Lahore Division President Faisal Mir. During the event, appointment notifications were distributed to several divisional-level office-bearers, including Senior Vice President Shahid Abbas Advocate, Vice Presidents Amir Nasir Butt, Maqsooma Bukhari, Zeeshan, and Tahira Jalib, as well as Deputy General Secretary Khurram Farooq. Other key appointments included Deputy Information Secretaries Ahmad Ghaman, Asjad Malik, and Hassan Abbas, Finance Secretary Asghar Bhatti, Secretary Records and Events Nabil Nasir, and Office Secretary Atif Khokhar.
First Phase of Town-Level Restructuring
In this initial phase, office-bearers have been notified for seven towns in Lahore: Model Town, Iqbal Town, Nishtar Town, City Town, Raiwind Town, Shalimar Town, and Ravi Town. The appointments include:
- Model Town: Syed Afraz Naqvi as President, Moin Ahmad Butt as General Secretary, Abbas Shah as Information Secretary, and Rana Imran as Senior Vice President.
- Iqbal Town: Amjad Jatt as President, Rao Shujaat as General Secretary, and Hamza Amjad as Information Secretary.
- Nishtar Town: Dr Waseem Hamid as President, Iftikhar Ali Shakir as General Secretary, and Affan Aslam as Information Secretary.
- City Town: Syed Ahmad Raza as President, Mansha Prince as General Secretary, and Malik Owais as Information Secretary.
- Raiwind Town: Rana Faisal Dilshad as President, Rana Sohail as General Secretary, and Rana Shahbaz Khan as Information Secretary.
- Shalimar Town: Zahid Zulfikar Khan as President, Syed Zahid Ali Shah as General Secretary, and Hamza Shakoor as Information Secretary.
- Ravi Town: Mian Hamza Abbas as President, Javed Ilyas alias Jaji Butt as General Secretary, and Hassan Gilani as Information Secretary.
Future Plans and Membership Drive
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Faisal Mir highlighted that this event was the first organizational meeting of PPP Lahore, formally announcing the town-level structures. He revealed that each town organization will comprise fifteen office-bearers, with the remaining appointments scheduled for completion by the 26th of the current month. Once the town organizations are finalized, the party plans to proceed with constituting organizations at the zone, union council, and ward levels.
Mir further announced an ambitious goal to enroll approximately 20,000 new members in Lahore within the next four months. This membership drive will also cover preparations for the upcoming local government elections. Organizations that meet their membership targets will be rewarded with meetings with party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari.
Ideological Commitment and Inclusivity
Reaffirming the party's ideological roots, Mir emphasized that the PPP continues to follow the vision of its founder, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He noted that Bilawal Bhutto is actively working to bring a new generation into the party fold. Additionally, Mir stressed the importance of promoting greater participation of women and youth in party activities. He expressed optimism that this restructuring process will help the PPP rebuild a strong political presence in Lahore, fostering a more inclusive and dynamic organizational culture.
