Britain has now changed six prime ministers in the space of a few years, a number usually associated with failed states and coup-prone dictatorships rather than a stable democracy. While constitutional explanations may be offered, the rapid turnover points to fundamentally broken politics, according to observers.
Starmer's Discredited Legacy
Keir Starmer was sold to the British public as a sober lawyer and manager of institutions, an antidote to the chaos of Brexit and Conservative collapse. Instead, he leaves behind a deeply discredited record. The most damning part of his legacy lies beyond Britain's shores: a former humanitarian lawyer who claimed Israel had the right to withhold food and water from Palestinians. Under his leadership, British intelligence, diplomacy and military alignment remained tied to wars and sieges on Gaza, Lebanon and Iran.
At home, his administration cracked down on legitimate protest, narrowed space for speech critical of Israel and pushed through an intrusive age-verification system raising questions about state control over information.
Instrument to Break Labour
Starmer was never a leader of the real left, but an instrument used to break Labour from within, purge its moral wing and demonise Jeremy Corbyn, the last figure giving the party a principled anti-war tradition. Having performed that function and become extremely unpopular, he has been discarded by the same system that elevated him.
What comes next is unlikely to be renewal. Britain's establishment will search for another acceptable face: WEF-friendly, Israel-approved and loyal to the imperial consensus. The names may change, but the function remains the same: a sovereign state acting as a faithful vassal to the forever wars of Israel and the West.
