A noted political figure from Sujawal district and the General Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s Cultural Wing for Hyderabad Division, Rab Dino Jat, was fatally shot in an armed attack on Tuesday night.
Details of the Attack
According to sources, Rab Dino was traveling from his native village, Budo Talpur in Sujawal district, to Thatta when two armed assailants intercepted his vehicle and opened fire, critically wounding him. Local residents rushed him to Civil Hospital Sujawal, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The news of the seasoned PPP worker’s death spread rapidly across the district. A large number of party supporters from both areas gathered at Civil Hospital Sujawal, while his relatives were seen wailing uncontrollably.
Post-Mortem and Funeral
After medico-legal formalities, his body was transported to his native village for burial. Party leaders who reached the hospital included MPA Muhammad Ali Malkani, Muhammad Hanif Memon, and Najeeb Sarvech, among others. The initial autopsy report revealed that the deceased had sustained bullets in his abdomen and died due to excessive bleeding.
Police Investigation
According to the initial inquiry by Sujawal police, the targeted attack was the result of an ongoing vendetta between two rival groups of the Jat tribe, which had already claimed three lives. The killing of Rab Dino brought the death toll to four.
Party’s Denial
Refuting the police claims, District President of PPP Firdous Aziz Mirbahar alleged that the ongoing tribal dispute had nothing to do with Rab Dino’s death and urged police to investigate more thoroughly. Fear and commotion gripped Sujawal district following the rare targeted attack, putting the district’s peace at risk.
A large number of people attended the funeral procession of the slain PPP worker, with a strong police contingent standing guard across Budo Talpur until the filing of this report.
