The Pakistan Navy demonstrated its formidable combat capabilities and operational readiness during a major maritime exercise held in the North Arabian Sea on Saturday. The comprehensive drill showcased a blend of conventional firepower and cutting-edge unmanned technologies, reflecting the evolving nature of modern naval warfare.
Precision Strikes and Air Defence Dominance
In a key highlight of the exercise, the Navy successfully conducted the live firing of an LY-80(N) Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) from a Vertical Launching System. The missile was fired at an extended range and successfully engaged and neutralized an aerial target. This successful test validated the long-range precision and reliability of the Pakistan Navy's modern air defence systems, forming a robust shield against airborne threats.
Furthermore, the force demonstrated its precision strike capabilities using Loitering Munition (LM). The advanced munition successfully identified, engaged, and destroyed designated surface targets, proving its effectiveness as a potent tool in the contemporary naval arsenal.
A Leap into Autonomous Naval Warfare
The exercise marked a significant technological milestone with the successful open-sea trials of an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV). These trials validated the autonomous platform's critical operational capabilities, including high-speed performance, mission durability, extreme maneuverability, and resilience in varying weather conditions.
The USV represents a paradigm shift, offering a low-risk, high-impact solution with the stealth profile of a tactical interceptor. This advancement underscores the Navy's commitment to integrating autonomous systems for enhanced maritime domain awareness and defence.
High-Level Commendations and Resolve
The exercise was witnessed by the Commander Pakistan Fleet. Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf commended the officers and personnel for their exceptional professionalism and operational competence displayed during the drills.
Admiral Ashraf reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy's unwavering resolve to ensure the seaward defence of the country and safeguard national maritime interests under all circumstances.
President Asif Ali Zardari also paid tribute to the Navy, congratulating the force on the successful test of the LY-80(N) missile and loitering munition. He expressed satisfaction over the effective performance of the Navy's modern air defence, strike, and autonomous systems. The President emphasized that the successful trials of the Unmanned Surface Vessel are a significant step towards strengthening the defence of Pakistan's maritime borders.
