A man scaled the Eiffel Tower on Saturday and hung a United States flag on the iconic Parisian structure, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of American independence, according to police.
Climber Apprehended After Stunt
The individual was observed in the afternoon ascending the tower between the second and third floors, where he draped the Stars and Stripes. Police confirmed the man was arrested, and the forecourt along with the second and third floors were temporarily evacuated. The climber did not provide any motive for his action, authorities stated. The flag was subsequently removed.
Eiffel Tower: A Global Icon
The Eiffel Tower, standing 324 meters (1,063 feet) tall, attracts approximately seven million paying visitors annually. Designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel, it was unveiled for the 1889 World Fair in Paris and has since become the definitive symbol of the French capital, often referred to as the "Iron Lady."
